The Company is issuing this RFP in order to solicit proposals so that it may continue to safely and reliably meet a portion of its peak day requirements beginning with the winter of 2024/25.
National Grid is committed to transitioning its natural gas network with smarter, cleaner, and more resilient energy solutions to meet the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As the Company continues to work towards achieving this net-zero goal, the Company must continue to meet the forecasted requirements of its firm customers throughout the near term. |
To meet a portion of the peak day demand for natural gas consumption in its downstate New York service territories for the near term, the Company is issuing this RFI in order to identify and incorporate alternatives to construction of interstate pipeline capacity. The Company will evaluate and consider all offers that successfully demonstrate an ability to reduce the Company's reliance on pipeline projects into the region as early as the heating season commencing November 1, 2022. The Company does not anticipate that any one proposal will be able to meet all of its customer needs, nor that all proposals may be available to commence service by the following heating season, and therefore anticipates pursuit of multiple proposals able to deliver a range of volume from projects that can be phased in over several heating seasons. As part of this RFI and in an effort to meet its supply needs in the region, the Company will give consideration not only to those proposals involving expansion of its existing RNG, CNG and LNG footprints, but also other innovative supply-side proposals that are not currently included in the Company's portfolio.

National Grid has issued a Request for Proposals to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates ("RECs") to meet the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard ("RPS"), the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard ("APS") and the Clean Energy Standard ("CES"). National Grid is seeking proposals for the supply of certificates from generating facilities in Massachusetts, New England and surrounding regions that have been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources as Class I new renewable energy resources, Class I Solar Carve-Out new renewable energy resources, Class I Solar Carve-Out II new renewable energy resources, Class II existing renewable energy resources and Class II Waste Energy existing renewable resources that meet the RPS requirements. National Grid is also seeking proposals for certificates that meet the APS and CES requirements. The following table summarizes the quantity of certificates National Grid is seeking:
